ART YOLK: Binding Skills & Creativity
ArtYolk provided young creative people with skills to help them work or train in the arts industry and get their own creative projects happening. It covered areas such as Project Development and Planning (including financial planning and budgeting), Legal issues, Sponsorship and Funding, Marketing and “Survival Skills”.
Originally, Art Yolk ran as a highly successful pilot program funded by the WA Department of Education and Training from mid 2004 to mid 2005. The project was an initiative of Propelarts with key partners Community Arts Network WA (CAN WA) and the Arts Sport & Recreation Industry Training Council (ASRITC).
The Art Yolk Pilot Aimed to:
• Produce an arts industry training program custom designed by and for its participants.
• Develop employment and ‘survival’ skills for young unemployed, regional and Indigenous artists and arts workers through participation in appropriate skills development workshops.
• Equip participants to access further training and be better prepared for employment.

Propelarts plans to deliver Art Yolk Skills & Workshops to young people throughout WA in 2006. We are currently applying for funding to allow us to deliver a number of workshops at no cost to young people.
Propelarts is no longer hosting the ArtYolk Program, but if your community is interested they can still find out more about skills development training for young people from CANWA.
A PUBLICATION, including a Project Case Study and the full Art Yolk Resources is still available and can downloaded for FREE below. To dowload the individual info sheets scroll down to 'Download Art Yolk Info Sheets'.
More About the Pilot Project
Art Yolk was somewhat unique in the amount of collaboration that occurred throughout. Although each organisation had distinct roles and responsibilities, considerable support and cross-over was offered by all organisations throughout the various stages of the project.
In addition to the Key Partners, there were two very important steering groups in the Art Yolk Pilot.
Of course, the star group were the Art Yolk Participants themselves: the young artists from around WA who helped to steer the project by feeding into the development of the Art Yolk training and then participating in and evaluating it. A big thanks to all young participants.
Another important group was the Working Group, comprising of key organisational stakeholders with invaluable skills and knowledge who helped to direct the project. IN addition to the key partners, this group included representatives from Country Arts WA, Central TAFE and the WA Department of Education and Training.
Finally, there was the Art Yolk Panel, comprising of mainly young people, either practicing artists or workers in the arts sector, from diverse backgrounds and with broad creative expertise. The Panel’s role was to select membership for the Art Yolk Participant Group.
And then there were all the Volunteers including the Art Yolk Volunteer Assistant Cassidy Hill, and Anglicare who provided a youth worker to assist with the final follow up workshop in July.
So yes, it was a HUGE effort in collaboration with hard work and commitment from all involved. All parties made for a rich and complex project with awesome outcomes for the young people it aimed to support.
Propelarts would like to sincerely thank every individual involved in the Art Yolk Pilot – there are way too many to mention but you know who you are!!!
