HOME IS WHERE MY HEART IS – Photographic Exhibition

By Propelarts

23rd July, 2008

A photographic exhibition in Northbridge capturing the plight of homelessness will feature at Ginger’s Garage as part of National Homelessness Persons Week.
The official opening will be held on the 7th of August from 6-8pm. ALL welcome.

The exhibition titled, Home Is Where My Heart Is showcases the collaborative talents of homeless youth and young emerging photographers. Six photographers have been working with eight homeless youths between the ages of 17-25 teaching them the ins and outs of photography. The homeless youth working on the project have come from all around Perth.

“It is the simple act of sharing knowledge and skills that makes this exhibition so powerful.” says Susannah Day, curator and Projects Coordinator at Propelarts.

Each large-scale print has been taken by the young homeless person; the emerging photographer is simply involved to enable the young person to skilfully interpret the title theme Home is Where My Heart Is.

The exhibition will be launched jointly by Department for Communities Minister Sue Ellery MLC and one of the young photographers.

Home Is Where My Heart Is sees an inaugural collaboration between two integral youth organisations, the Youth Affairs Council of WA and Propelarts – Youth Arts WA. The two organisations have combined resources to create an exhibition that is both socially conscious and creatively sound.
